When working in the store and office at Shasta Marina, I answered numerous phone calls from all different types of people, including customers, salesmen and much more. One specific phone call that I remember was someone trying to scam us, further stating a problem with someone who "worked for us." But as a result, they were trying to get money out of us as they were trying to convince us a paycheck did not go through for this workers last few weeks she had worked for us. Trying to take information of our names and much more, this caller would not stop trying to manipulate us. Later on I told my manager where she eventually handled this issue, but it goes to show of how this person kept trying to trick us into sending them a paycheck for someone that didn't even work for us.

Wow, that sounds like such a stressful situation! It’s crazy how persistent some scammers can be, especially when they think they can pressure someone over the phone. Good on you for recognizing the red flags early and looping in your manager!

Great post! It’s really important for workplaces to train employees on how to handle suspicious calls like this. Scammers are getting more creative, and stories like yours are a good reminder to always verify information before giving anything out.

  3. I’m glad you trusted your instincts. A lot of people might have felt pressured or unsure in that moment. Sharing experiences like this helps others be more aware and careful when dealing with unusual requests.

This is wild! It’s unbelievable how far scammers will go to try to get money or information. You handled it well by keeping calm and reporting it. Definitely a reminder that not everything over the phone is what it seems.
